Goldeneye Gardens

The gardens have different plants flowering all year round. Though the property is on the coast, the retension of the treecanopy on the limestone cliffs has allowed pockets of unusual species to grow.as the sea breezes are kept at bay.

Broughtonia grandiflora (on a royal palm)

Broughtonia is an endemic epiphytic species found islandwide, but usually associated with the warmer altitudes. Much sought after for intrageneric breeding with species such as Cattlya and Oncidium. This plant produces prolific 1 1/2" blooms year round.

Hibiscus X hybrid

Found all over Jamaica in many colours, sizes and shapes, this exotic genus has been associated with Jamaica for years. Many of the original species and cultivars still survive and all are used for floral arranging. This bloom is 6" across.

Cannonball tree

A massive tree that produces seeds the same shape and size as cannonballs. Large 4" blooms occur year round only on the main trunk of the tree.

Strangler Fig

This specimen is to be found outside the office and has completely taken over it's host plant. Birds leave seed in the branches of trees which germinate and send down aerial roots to gain nourishment.
